Why we’re here:

The Outreach House’s reason for being is simple – to provide compassionate and effective assistance to individuals and families with dignity and without judgment.

We focus on helping families in York Township,* Glendale Heights and Addison during the most vulnerable times of their lives. By addressing the sources of insecurity related to acquiring food, appropriate clothing, diapers and hygiene products, and paying essential bills to prevent utility shut offs, we can help local residents maintain healthy diets, and safe and secure homes for their families. We do this through our four programs: Food Pantry, First Things First (infant needs), Walk-In Assistance (emergency expenses) and Clothes Closet.

Low wages, unpredictable work hours, rising food costs and the high cost of housing in DuPage County all contribute to families having to choose between purchasing food, appropriate clothing, diapers and hygiene products, and paying essential bills for utilities, transportation and medical expenses. Insecurities related to these life essentials undermine working families’ dignity, independence and wellbeing.

* Municipalities covered: Lombard, Villa Park, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Glendale Heights, Addison, most of Elmhurst, and York Township sections Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, and Westmont. A map of the York Township boundaries may be found here.

* If you reside outside our service area, you will find a community food map for your area through the Northern Illinois Food Bank at solvehungertoday.org/get-help/where-to-get-food.

How we help:

Food Assistance

The Food Pantry allows each guest to “shop” for their own groceries where we offer a nutritious variety of fresh produce, frozen meat and fish, eggs, dairy, bread and non-perishable items.

INFANT NEEDS

First Things First believes every child deserves a dry diaper. Families in need can receive a box of diapers once a month. Families may also receive formula, infant foods and hygiene products and can “shop” for infant clothes up to size 5T.

EMERGENCY FINANCIAL NEEDS

Walk-In Assistance is available to help with temporary, emergency expenses, such as help with utility bills if a service is going to be shut off.

CLOTHING

Families can visit the Clothes Closet for gently used clothes for all ages (above 5T), including outerwear and shoes.
